One of our local theatres is expanding their horizons to reach more patrons through a new collaboration.

Quick facts

Synchronicity Theatre will be partnering with Hands In! for three performances this season to bring ASL interpretation to their stage. The shows include, A Year With Frog and Toad (Dec 11—Jan 3), Mirandy and Brother Wind (Jan 29—Feb 21), and The Bluest Eye (June 7—27).

How it works

Using two artistically-trained interpreters for each show, American Sign Language will be used to sign dialogue and to echo the emotions in the words and songs. There will always be two interpreters on screen at the same time, and they will be playing the different characters, along with the actors.

The production will be recorded and shot with up to four cameras spread throughout the theatre. Felipe Barral of IGNI Productions and Amanda Sachtleben will record the interpreters in a live performance, with possible pick-ups, then in post-production create windows that show the interpreters in a “one picture format,” interpreting the performance simultaneously.

About Hands In!

Hands In! is a 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit based out of Atlanta, GA that aims to connect communities by promoting accessibility in the arts. Hands In! produces original works such as workshops, classes, and community events with a special interest in theatre and jukebox musicals, all of which are fully accessible in American Sign Language. Anyone and everyone can enjoy their visually immersive shows.

About those tickets

$10 from synchrotheatre.com. All "On the Screen" ticket holders for A Year With Frog and Toad (Dec 11—Jan 3), Mirandy and Brother Wind (Jan 29—Feb 21), and The Bluest Eye (June 7—27) will be receiving links to two versions of the performance – one with interpreters and one without – in their ticket confirmations.

A sweet night of comedy and important conversations is coming to Woodstock and streaming to audiences everywhere.

Quick facts

Elm Street Cultural Arts Village welcomes Jessica It's All Good in her Netflix comedy special-style show We're all Chocolate on November 22 at 7:00pm both streaming online and in-person at the City Center Auditorium (8534 Main St. Woodstock, GA 30188). The 90-minute piece features crazy stories from Jessica's life, fusing laughter with very real topics.

In the words of the star

“Love is the answer. At the end of day, everyone just wants to be happy and that comes from a place of love. We spend so much time focusing on what’s negative, and that’s really unhealthy. But if we could take the time to love each other better, I think that the world would be a better place. Love is the answer, and laughter is a good way to get there.”

- Jessica It's All Good

About We're All Chocolate

It’s difficult to talk about the tough stuff. But Jessica It’s All Good will have you laughing over all of it! We’re All Chocolate is a comedy show highlighting some fun and crazy stories from her life, while hitting certain topics surrounding race head on. She will have you rolling on the floor laughing (and with social distancing in-person OR from your own home digitally there will be plenty of space to do that!).

With spooky season just barely behind us, a spider-entitled musical is ready to stream this weekend. But it has little to do with spiders and spooks.

Quick facts

Lock Willow Productions will stream the romantic and heartwarming Daddy Long Legs in partnership with the Pumphouse Players in Cartersville November 6-15. All proceeds will benefit The Pumphouse Players. From writers Paul Gordon and John Caird, the original production of this musical had its run Off-Broadway in 2015 and famously became the first Off-Broadway musical to stream a live performance.

About Daddy Long Legs

Set in the early 1900s in New England, Daddy Long Legs is the vivid account of a young orphan as she blossoms into a beautiful, intelligent and vivacious woman. An anonymous benefactor gives Jerusha Abbott an opportunity to attend college, requiring that she write to him monthly, even though he says he will not respond. Her letters to him paint a moving portrait of her former life in the orphanage, and the development of her mind and spirit.

While Atlanta theatre fans eagerly await the delayed premiere of The Pretty Pants Bandit, we have a recording studio preview of one of the songs! Featuring the vocal talents of Austin Taylor, Juan Carlos Unzueta and AJ Klopach, with accompaniment from Chase Peacock and Jessica De Maria, the song is called "Big Boy Dreams."

https://www.facebook.com/jesseanne21/videos/10164125412800408/

Encore previously announced that this original musical would get its premiere at Georgia Ensemble Theatre in April 2021. This represents a proud moment for the Atlanta theatre community as the piece is written by local performers Chase Peacock and Jessica De Maria, both recently (ish... because COVID) seen in Horizon Theatre's Once.

Known professionally as the writing team "Chase and Jessica," the pair previously premiered the haunting Vivian in October 2017 in the Atlanta Lyric Theatre's's intimate Studio in the Square.

From the Pretty Pants Bandit team

"I came across Marie Baker, (known as "The Pretty Pants Bandit") doing research for another show I was in. This was a real-life woman leading a gang of men who marauded through Miami from 1932-1933. She was notorious for her beauty, and for "pantsing" the men she robbed at gunpoint.

"When Chase said he really wanted to do a female-driven musical for our next project, I jumped at the chance to introduce him to Marie."

-The Pretty Pants Bandit co-creator Jessica De Maria

About The Pretty Pants Bandit

From housewife to hero - Marie Baker, her gang, and one infamous pair of guns took the country for a year-long ride that would make headlines. Notoriously leaving the men she robbed with their pants down, her evolution became a revolution. Set against the sparkling and scintillating backdrop of 1930s Miami, The Pretty Pants Bandit will steal your inhibitions and your heart.

Visit ChaseandJessica.com for more information about The Pretty Pants Bandit.
