Atlanta Shakespeare Co. is starting the new year with the rarely produced Shakespearean soap opera, Pericles, Prince of Tyre. Written by the Bard in 1609, the picaresque talewill be performed January 4-27.

Directed by Jeff Watkins, Pericles, which features more than 70 characters played by a dozen actors, is a heroic adventure of one man’s lifetime, a story of love gained, lost, and gained again. The show starts with a troubling riddle and then Shakespeare woos the audience with his most epic theatrical journey. 

Charlie T. Thomas stars as Pericles, whose life is told over continents and decades, as he meets goddesses and pirates, and takes part in jousts and tempests.

The show also features award-winning singer-songwriter-storyteller-professional whistler Andy Offutt Irwin as John Gower the Narrator.
