The Force will be strong on May 4, as the Children’s Museum of Atlanta will honor Star Wars Day with a series of special programing.
Families and fans of the iconic film franchise are invited to spend a day filled with activities and excitement, embracing the spirit of the Star Wars universe.
The event will begin on the museum’s main stage with activities to help kids join the resistance. Participants will engage in Catapult Target Practice at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., where they will learn about force and motion while launching objects at various targets.
Following the target practice, Jedi Training sessions led by instructor Darby Guinn will take place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Participants will be taught the ways of the Jedi, practicing lightsaber techniques and mindfulness exercises to channel the force within them. The training will encourage focus and discipline, echoing the teachings of the legendary Jedi masters.
At noon and 2 p.m., families will gather for the Bottle Rocket Science Show, where they will be treated to a demonstration of the principles of propulsion and gravity as volunteers launch bottle rockets into the sky.
In addition to the stage activities, the Art Studio will offer the littlest Star Wars fans color-by-numbers activities that reveal their favorite Star Wars characters and provide them the opportunity to design their own droids. This drop-in activity, which begins at 9:30 a.m., will allow for self-expression and imagination.
The date comes from a fanciful mispronunciation of a catchphrase from the film: “May the Fourth (Force) be with you.” Museum guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Star Wars characters.
