A sweet night of comedy and important conversations is coming to Woodstock and streaming to audiences everywhere.

Quick facts

Elm Street Cultural Arts Village welcomes Jessica It's All Good in her Netflix comedy special-style show We're all Chocolate on November 22 at 7:00pm both streaming online and in-person at the City Center Auditorium (8534 Main St. Woodstock, GA 30188). The 90-minute piece features crazy stories from Jessica's life, fusing laughter with very real topics.

In the words of the star

“Love is the answer. At the end of day, everyone just wants to be happy and that comes from a place of love. We spend so much time focusing on what’s negative, and that’s really unhealthy. But if we could take the time to love each other better, I think that the world would be a better place. Love is the answer, and laughter is a good way to get there.”

- Jessica It's All Good

With spooky season just barely behind us, a spider-entitled musical is ready to stream this weekend. But it has little to do with spiders and spooks.

Quick facts

Lock Willow Productions will stream the romantic and heartwarming Daddy Long Legs in partnership with the Pumphouse Players in Cartersville November 6-15. All proceeds will benefit The Pumphouse Players. From writers Paul Gordon and John Caird, the original production of this musical had its run Off-Broadway in 2015 and famously became the first Off-Broadway musical to stream a live performance.

About Daddy Long Legs

Set in the early 1900s in New England, Daddy Long Legs is the vivid account of a young orphan as she blossoms into a beautiful, intelligent and vivacious woman. An anonymous benefactor gives Jerusha Abbott an opportunity to attend college, requiring that she write to him monthly, even though he says he will not respond. Her letters to him paint a moving portrait of her former life in the orphanage, and the development of her mind and spirit.

In honor of the spooky season, one of Roswell's theatres is bringing back the magic of radio plays.

Just the facts

This week, Georgia Ensemble Theatre presents the second of three haunting radio plays, The Dunwich Horror, streaming on their website through October 30.

Cast

Featuring: Hugh Adams, Natalie Baker, Billy Barefoot, Alden Burroughs, Christa Burton, Ellie Cook, Casey Cudmore, Matt Goodson, Preston Goodson, Asia Howard, Jeffrey Hunt, Paul Landri, Fiona Leonard, Adam Ross, TJ Ruth, Parris Sarter, & Thomas Trinh.

About The Dunwich Horror

Based on the short story by H.P. Lovecraft. Adapted by Thomas Fuller
and used by permission of his estate.

Directed by Ellie Cook

An isolated town in New England holds to "the old ways" and does not welcome outsiders. The Whateley family is isolated even within the town--old father and daughter keeping to themselves in a crumbling house on a hill. But Lavinia Whateley's strange child, fascinated with his grandfather's occult books, sparks rumors among the villagers, and soon the air is filled with fear. Classic radio play sound effects and atmosphere create a terrifying tale perfect for the Halloween season.

Produced by Atlanta Radio Theatre Company, presented by Georgia Ensemble Theatre.

A recent work by a Tony Award-winner is coming to life in the hands of some Atlanta arts professionals (virtually, of course).

Just the facts

Horizon Theatre is presenting a "Zoom-style" filmed reading of Itamar Moses' Completeness at 7:30 p.m. on September 25-26 and October 2-3. This play about a scientific look at romance marks the second collaboration between Horizon and Moses, having previously produced Moses’ musical Nobody Loves You in 2017.

Special talkbacks

The September 26 performance includes a post-show discussion with not only the actors and director, but the Tony Award-winning playwright Moses (The Band's Visit) himself. On September 25, October 2 and 3, Horizon is partnering with Science ATL to give audiences access to scientists studying the types of computer science and molecular biology described in the play.

About Completeness

Elliot, a computer scientist, and Molly, a molecular biologist, are struggling with the realities of romance. When love is the answer, how do these two intellectuals manage to figure out the equation in the first place? When Elliot builds a computer program to help Molly with her research project, the variables in their evolving relationship shift as rapidly as the terms of their experiment. You’ll see both their romantic triumphs and regressions mirrored in the science they create.

Under the direction of Heidi McKerley, the cast of Atlanta favorites includes Chris Hecke, Naima Carter Russell, Shelli Delgado, and Eric J. Little.

In the words of the theatre

“We’re delighted to be working with Itamar again, and thrilled that audiences will be able to meet him. His writing is smart, funny, and about people searching for deep connections. This is a wonderful show for our four talented actors. We’re proud of all of Itamar’s accomplishments, and happy to present this play that’s close to his heart.”

-Producing Artistic Director Lisa Adler

Aurora Theatre is taking audiences to a Tennessee diner for an evening of music, interpersonal drama, and heartfelt laughs.

Just the facts

The Aurora Theatre will present Lori Fischer's musical Barbara's Blue Kitchen virtually, streaming September 25-October 4. This production marks the first in Aurora's "Our Stage Onscreen" digital series. Described as a "country fried musical," the piece stars Chloe Kay and Skylar Brown with direction by Justin Anderson and musical direction by Ann-Carol Pence.

In the words of the Aurora Theatre

“Our Stage Onscreen is exciting for a few reasons: it fulfills our mission of producing professional theatrical for our community, it allows us to employ artists and it gives us a creative platform we’re all so desperate for at this time,” said Ann-Carol Pence, Co-Founder and Associate Producer of Aurora Theatre. “We’ve used this opportunity to implement safety protocols for our artists and staff so when we’re able to gather, we’ll be ready."

"Barbara’s Blue Kitchen affected me so deeply because the show speaks to the ache we all have to be part of a community. This diner is the center of town, much like Aurora Theatre has become the central place for Gwinnett County. The show provides an opportunity to innovate by bringing a fully-realized production to the homes of our community, who we know are starved for great musical theater. This show is relevant, yet full of hope, heart and marvelous music.”

About Barbara's Blue Kitchen

Barbara Jean owns the diner that is the epicenter of life, love and gossip in Watertown, a small town just outside of Nashville. This musical serves up a slice of small town southern life with a heaping helping of comedy. At Barbara’s Blue Kitchen the special of the day is a genuine look into the hearts of everyday people.

The trials and tribulations of a weary nurse, an elderly widow, an overwhelmed mother of three boys, a heartbroken waitress and the topsy-turvy love life of Barbara Jean play out like a country song. The show will star WatersEdge Records recording artist and Aurora Theatre AppCo Alumni Chloe Kay.

About those tickets
