This weekend's best bets: Jan. 17

Opening this week are the fast-paced comedy “Bob” (Aurora Theatre) and David Lindsay-Abaire’s much-praised “Good People” (Alliance). Closing: “Waiting for Balloon” at the Alliance’s Theatre for the Very Young. Worth checking out: 7 Stages’ new Home Brew Series of new-play readings; “Swell Party,” which is swell, if long, at Georgia Ensemble; and “Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,” which is still stirring buzz as it hits week two in its six-week run at Actor’s Express.

If I could see one show this weekend it would be “Time Stands Still” at Horizon Theatre Company. But there’s lots to choose from, including the openings of “Betrayal” at Aurora Theatre and “Macbeth” at Georgia Shakespeare, and your last chance to see “Kiss of the Spider Woman” at Actor’s Express and “What I Learned in Paris” at the Alliance.
