About Feeding Beatrice

June and Lurie Walker, the proud new owners of a creaky old gothic house, have a haunting new houseguest – and she’s ravenously hungry. When Beatrice arrives, she burrows deep into their existence and unearths secrets with explosive consequences. Expertly crafted, this spine-chilling thriller evokes the terror of Get Out and the suspense of Hitchcock’s Psycho. A gothic tale that metaphorically and literally reveals the dark-side of America’s past and its lingering effects in the present.

In the Words of the Theatre

Feeding Beatrice is both hilarious and haunting as Black couple June and Lurie seek to assimilate in the 'perfect neighborhood' no matter the cost. But their house becomes a very real character when an unexpected guest appears who will not make this an easy journey. We are excited to present this powerful play that uses the genre of horror to highlight the systemic and present obstacles many face in pursuit of the American Dream."

-Aurora Theatre Co-Founder, President and CEO Anthony Rodriguez

There is always plenty to do around our vibrant city during the holidays, and in our humble and unbiased opinion, theatre is definitely the highlight. So we've rounded up some can't-miss shows from around Metro-Atlanta to check out below!

A Christmas Carol at the Alliance Theatre

Is it Christmas in the ATL if Alliance's A Christmas Carol doesn't happen? Pretty sure it can't be. This Atlanta mainstay returns to the Coca-Cola Stage to debut a totally new edition of the show we know and love. Performances are Nov. 12 – Dec. 24, 2021 with varying dates and times. And for the first time ever, the performance will also be streamed December 17-January 9. Tickets and schedule information are available at The Woodruff Arts Center Box Office in person, by calling 404-733-4600, or visiting www.alliancetheatre.org/christmas

About

Ebenezer Scrooge, an old man well-known for his miserly ways, is visited by ghosts offering him a chance at a better future – his old partner Jacob Marley and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future – who teach him it is never too late to change.  The beloved Dickens classic comes to life in this Broadway-scale production.

Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure at Synchronicity Theatre

In the category of "Not explicitly Christmas, but still magical for the whole family," Synchronicity is offering quite the musical romp through a classic story. Synchronicity Theatre’s Family Series production of Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure will run December 10, 2021 – January 2, 2022. Individual tickets start at $15. For tickets or more information, visit synchrotheatre.com or call 404-484-8636.

About

The show was adapted from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. The show was created by Rachel Rockwell (book, lyrics) and Michael Mahler (music, lyrics). In this rock concert meets live theatre, we follow young Alice as she journeys through self-doubt to find her true voice and her true self. This vibrant, zany, and refreshing new take on Lewis Carroll’s beloved story brings a live band soundtrack - from classic rock to punk to ska and even a little Bollywood – to a classic tale for kids and parents of all ages.

After more than two years of construction, Aurora Theatre and the City of Lawrenceville are proud to announce that the highly-anticipated $35 million Lawrenceville Arts Center is ready to welcome the public for its debut season.

In honor of its completion, the arts center hosted “A Million Dreams Grand Opening Celebration” Oct. 22-24. The event featured tours, exclusive experiences, and performances from Aurora favorites.

Check out photos from the celebratory events below!

In the words of the theatre...

“Gearing up to program and manage this massive expansion while attempting to raise $5 million during a pandemic is not how I imagined this process would begin. But none of this has dampened our enthusiasm for the Grand Opening Celebration. Small groups experiencing a personal and immersive introduction is much better than any rubber chicken gala. I am as excited as I have ever been about what the Lawrenceville Arts Center will mean for the community. The possibilities are endless.”

-Anthony Rodriguez, Aurora Theatre President and CEO & Co-Founder

George Bailey is back in town for the Christmas season and beyond.

Quick facts

The Aurora Theatre is streaming its third annual This Wonderful Life now through January 1. As the name would suggest, this is an adaptation of It's a Wonderful Life, but the twist is that it's performed by one storyteller. The multi-talented Jeremy Aggers reprises the role(s) for which he received the 2019 Suzi Bass Award, starring as everyone from little Zuzu to mean old Mr. Potter.

Sneak peek

About This Wonderful Life

This hilariously-touching stage adaptation of one of the most popular and heartwarming films ever made stars Atlanta’s own Jeremy Aggers (Singles in Agriculture, Hands on a Hardbody). Mr. Aggers inhabits all of the wonderful characters from Clarence, Mr. Potter, Uncle Billy, Mary, Mr. Gower, yes even Zuzu, as well as the undeniably iconic George Bailey, who learns that it takes a lot more than money to be the richest man in town. Written by Steve Murray and conceived by Mark Setlock, Justin Anderson returns to direct.

About Jeremy Aggers

Jeremy Aggers is an actor, audiobook narrator, and musician based in Atlanta. This is Jeremy’s fourth show at Aurora. His last role here, as Joel in Singles In Agriculture, was one of his favorites of his career. Some of his other favorite roles include Reese in Edward Foote (Alliance Theatre), Mr. Tumnus in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (Alliance Theatre), Buddy in The Buddy Holly Story (Georgia Ensemble), and Donald Mackenzie in Astoria at Portland Center Stage. Look for his audiobooks on the magical internet.

About 2 the Left

An inspiring music-filled, multimedia experience chronicling the life and spiritual journey of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, controversial member of the 90s pop music phenomenon, TLC. This play with music focuses on a young woman of color and the challenges that she encounters as she embarks on a journey to find her artistic voice and purpose. 2 The Left allows the audience to take a glimpse at the woman behind the legend and discover how her path might mirror our own.

Atlanta patrons might remember 2 the Left from Synchronicity Theatre's Stripped Bare: Arts Incubator Project.
