About Cinderella at Aurora Theatre

Audiences have been anticipating this production since it was first announced two years ago, originally slated for production in July 2020—but as all good fairy godmothers know, “Even miracles take a little time!” The enduring fairytale features treasured Rodgers and Hammerstein songs, such as “In My Own Little Corner, “Impossible/It’s Possible,” and "Ten Minutes Ago," alongside a hilarious and romantic story that, with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane, adds new characters and surprising twists. The Aurora Theatre team says the rags-to-regal journey of Ella parallels Aurora’s own story- from humble beginnings to fulfilling their dream of the brand-new Lawrenceville Arts Center.

Theatrical Outfit continues its return to the stage with their first production of 2022, Bright Half Life, now through February 27, 2022. This new drama is filled with all the heart, tears, laughs that life has to offer. Bright Half Life will run at Balzer Theater at Herren’s in the heart of Downtown Atlanta.

Check out this preview for Bright Half Life at Theatrical Outfit!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCFo0NNl2k4

About Bright Half Life

What if life came with a rewind button? Pulitzer Prize finalist Tanya Barfield brings the world a kaleidoscopic new play about love, heartbreak, skydiving and the infinite moments that make a relationship. Bright Half Life shares the four-and-a-half-decade story of Vicky and Erica, who meet, fall in love, and go through all the trials and tribulations of marriage and building a family. Pause. Rewind. Fast forward. And hold on to “A Well-Written, Engaging Portrayal Of Smart Women Finding Themselves And Each Other” (The New Yorker).

In the Words of the Theatre

Bright Half Life is extraordinarily ambitious in its scope. It tells the story of over four decades in the relationship between two women charting their path through courtship, marriage, parenthood and beyond. But what really stands out is that the play is structured like the half life of an atom, with scenes existing out of the linear sequence of time, and each exploring a different ‘collision’ between these two beautiful souls.

"We experience this relationship as a series of exquisite glimpses, with moments of intimacy colliding with moments of distance, joy colliding with pain, and the freshness of new love colliding with the depth and complexity of a relationship grown over time. Bright Half Life is a theatrical love letter to the way that love and time entwine that shows how tiny moments accumulate into a rich and full life.”

-Theatrical Outfit’s Artistic Director Matt Torney

About the Company

Bright Half Life will star two of our city's top talents sharing the stage for the first time – Park Krausen and Candy McLellan.

The doors of yet another Atlanta theatre are opening back up again, and we couldn't be more excited!

Horizon Theatre Company will open its 38th season with the critically acclaimed Every Brilliant Thing, live on stage January 28-February 27. Told in collaboration with the audience in an intimate in-the-round setting, this refreshing play is a unique, interactive show about how a child’s list of all the wonderful things in the world transforms a family’s life as the list grows over decades. Horizon’s production of this solo tour de force will feature three actors who will rotate in the role at different performances, telling the story of the list and its impact as it expands to a million items.

In the Words of the Theatre

“This is not like any show I have ever seen before. It’s intimate and personal with the actor interacting directly with the audience before and during the play. Every night will be a different experience, with each actor and audience bringing their own stamp to the play. We have reduced the theatre's seating capacity and included playing spaces throughout the audience to increase intimacy while keeping COVID safe.

"The show is filled with humor, joy, and hope, even though it tackles the somber topic of mental health and its legacy in a family. Audiences will leave feeling uplifted, more connected to their loved ones, and hopefully appreciative of the small miracles that make life worth living every day.”

-Director Jeff Adler, Horizon Theatre's Co-Artistic Director

About Every Brilliant Thing

1)Ice cream. 2) Water fights. 3) Staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV. One fall day, a child begins a list of everything that makes life worth living when his/her mother is in the hospital recovering from “being sad."  As time passes, the list grows and becomes an epic chronicle of life's small joys that impacts the storyteller in unexpected ways, offering light and hope in the dark corners. This funny and emotional journey charts the lengths we will go for those we love--and draws on the audience's help to tell the story.

Performance Details

Horizon Theatre Company's performances start January 28, 2022 (Press Opening February 4, 2022) and run until February 27, 2022, at Horizon in Little Five Points/Inman Park (1083 Austin Avenue N.E., Atlanta, GA 30307, at the corner of Euclid and Austin Avenues). Meet the Cast

The story-teller will be played by three separate actors, performing on different nights of the Horizon run. Horizon favorite Megan Hayes is an actor of stage and screen (The Hunger Games: Catching Fire) who is currently the co-host of Horizon’s Southbound: True Life Tales from the ATL and has been seen at Horizon in Waffle Palace Christmas, Sex with Strangers, Tree and The Santaland Diaries.

O’Neil Delapenha has been working virtually with Horizon for the past year, including the The Ghosts of Little Five Points and his own spoken word and story-telling. He is a regular performer and director at the Atlanta Shakespeare Company and founder of Black Theatre Artists of Atlanta.

Shelby Hofer has been onstage at Horizon frequently in earlier years, including the hilarious solo show, Bad Dates. She is very familiar with solo performance as she has recently developed and performed her own one-woman show, High Risk, Baby! about her wild and epic journey into motherhood.   She is co-Founder of PushPush Arts, which now manages an arts incubator facility for local artists in College Park dedicated to fostering innovation in all artistic disciplines.

Content Advisory

Although aspects of mental health are approached from a positive perspective, and the play is about resilience and hope, Every Brilliant Thing does address the topics of depression and suicide.

Aurora Theatre would like to express our immense gratitude to our patrons for their patience and understanding as we navigate the current reality of presenting live theater.

About Feeding Beatrice

June and Lurie Walker, the proud new owners of a creaky old gothic house, have a haunting new houseguest – and she’s ravenously hungry. When Beatrice arrives, she burrows deep into their existence and unearths secrets with explosive consequences. Expertly crafted, this spine-chilling thriller evokes the terror of Get Out and the suspense of Hitchcock’s Psycho. A gothic tale that metaphorically and literally reveals the dark-side of America’s past and its lingering effects in the present.

In the Words of the Theatre

Feeding Beatrice is both hilarious and haunting as Black couple June and Lurie seek to assimilate in the 'perfect neighborhood' no matter the cost. But their house becomes a very real character when an unexpected guest appears who will not make this an easy journey. We are excited to present this powerful play that uses the genre of horror to highlight the systemic and present obstacles many face in pursuit of the American Dream."

-Aurora Theatre Co-Founder, President and CEO Anthony Rodriguez

Wonderland: Alice’s Rock & Roll Adventure at Synchronicity Theatre

In the category of "Not explicitly Christmas, but still magical for the whole family," Synchronicity is offering quite the musical romp through a classic story. In this rock concert meets live theatre, we follow young Alice as she journeys through self-doubt to find her true voice and her true self. This vibrant, zany, and refreshing new take on Lewis Carroll’s beloved story brings a live band soundtrack - from classic rock to punk to ska and even a little Bollywood – to a classic tale for kids and parents of all ages.

Actor’s Express continues its 34th season with the World Premiere production of Hometown Boy by Georgia native Keiko Green, now playing through the end of November. Hometown Boy is about being an outsider and asks the age-old question, "Can you really go home again?"

Check out our gallery of new production stills below!

In the words of the theatre

“Keiko Green is a Georgia native who has crafted a sublimely affecting piece of theatre that refracts a Southern Gothic milieu through an Asian-American lens. I had the good fortune of working as Dramaturg on a workshop of the play a little over a year ago at the Kennedy Center, and working with Keiko was an amazing experience and a real highlight for me. Since Keiko is a native of Marietta, doing her play for Actor’s Express audiences here in Atlanta is a bit of a homecoming for her, and that’s very exciting.”

-Artistic Director Freddie Ashley

About Hometown Boy

by Keiko Green

Directed by Rebecca Wear

November 3 - 28, 2021

James hasn’t been back to his rural Georgia hometown in over a decade, but reluctantly returns to check in on his father, whose behavior has become worryingly erratic. And since the South has a way of holding onto secrets, he soon stumbles into a life he thought he had left behind as a child. That stench in the air isn’t just his father’s decaying house, but the rotten core of long-buried secrets teeming just under the surface and ready to explode.

California-based Rebecca Wear directs the six-person cast, which includes Ryan Vo, Allison Dayne, Michelle Pokopac, Glenn Kubota, Daniel Parvis and Chris Kayser.
