Zoo Atlanta has come a long way since its opening in 1889. Today you can commune safely with African lions and elephants, lemurs, monkeys, leopards, otters, giant pandas, giraffes, western lowland gorillas and even some beasts you haven’t heard of — binturong, double-wattled cassowary. The 40-acre zoo gives its beasts, large and small, a home in a natural environment, making this a great place to connect with your wild side. The zoo is open 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. seven days a week, but the last visitors are admitted at 4:30 p.m. Those in the know suggest you allow three hours for your visit. Note: These tickets expire Dec. 31, 2018.
