The Aurora Theatre announced that co-founder Anthony Rodriquez will join HUB404 Conservancy, a multi-purpose nine-acre greenspace in Buckhead, as its first executive director. While he will maintain a presence on Aurora’s board of directors, Co-Founder and Producing Artistic Director Ann-Carol Pence and Managing Director Katie Pelkey will continue to lead the theatre’s day-to-day operations.

In addition, the Lawrenceville Arts Center is celebrating its first full season in the new Lawrenceville Arts Center, with an expanded mission to “lift up underrepresented voices, develop our internal talent and expand our community impact, in order that we may serve as a beacon of hope for what a community of belonging should be. It may sound serious, but it is joyful work,” said Pence.

Aurora Theatre’s 2022/2023 Signature Series will bring an unbeatable line-up of professional theatre to Gwinnett County, including two returning favorites. Aurora Theatre’s award-winning production of Disney’s Mary Poppins will open the season featuring familiar faces from Aurora’s original 2014 presentation. Galen Crawley will reprise the title role, a performance that earned her the 2014 Outstanding Lead Female Actor in a Musical Suzi Bass Award. She will be joined by fellow Suzi Bass Award recipient Andy Meeks, who will be returning as Bert.

The beloved Gwinnett holiday tradition Christmas Canteen will also return for its 27th year, bringing its beloved holiday joy and spirit as well as exciting, new twists. New shows taking the stage at the Lawrenceville Arts Center include the award-winning Kim’s Convenience, which is now a popular Netflix series, the biographical Summer: The Donna Summer Musical and the hilarious, Olivier Award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong.

Akme Instant Circus comes back to the Lawrenceville Arts Center for a limited engagement of a dazzling cirque experience, “FOUR,” which explores the power and grace of opposing forces. Told through music, movement, and jaw-dropping skill on various apparatus, the story begins with four distinctly different groups at odds. Yet, just like the essential elements—fire, water, air and earth—they must learn to coexist in order to thrive. cdcclpac.com

The Aurora Theater in Lawrenceville has plenty of activities to keep young and old engaged with the arts throughout the summer. For instance, there is Aurora Comedy Nights: Dad’s Garage on June 17 and 18, and “It’s Electric!,” an exploration of electricity and heat as the Big Thinkers Science Exploration team experiment with a 5,000-volt Tesla coil. The audience is encouraged to join in the fun, which includes hands-on demonstrations of a hair-raising electrostatic generator, an indoor lightning strike and an experiment with levitation using static electricity.

Squeeze the Clown takes the audience on a wonderful trip of clown music, magic and imagination, and expands our perception of what is possible. Squeeze the Clown will perform his antics for two shows on June 22. auroratheatre.com

A modern Broadway favorite is taking the Byers Theatre stage to celebrate a special Ruby Anniversary.

Broadway star Jessica Vosk (Wicked) is joining the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus for a celebration of 40 years of music-making and community-building on April 10th at 3:00 and 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at the Byers Theatre of the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center, 1 Galambos Way, Sandy Springs, GA 30328.

Jessica Vosk first graced the Atlanta stage in the World Premiere of Becoming Nancy at the Alliance Theater in 2019. There, she met the AGMC’s Artistic Director Donald Milton III, and they began dreaming up a future collaboration. Almost three years later, that dream is becoming a reality.

“We are thrilled and gratified that Ms. Vosk will join us for our celebration of the AGMC’s 40th anniversary,” said Donald Milton III, the current artistic director of the AGMC. “It’s not every day that we mark such a milestone as this, and I am grateful that she has chosen to collaborate in our ‘Rubyversary’! It is sure to be a special concert that audiences won’t want to miss.”

The admiration is mutual.

“Choral singing was my introduction to this career I love so very much, so it’s been a dream of mine to be able to revisit my roots," gushes Vosk. "And now I get to sing with the incredible Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus!?! Pinch me. The gay community has been so incredibly kind and supportive of my journey, and now I’m the luckiest girl to be able to share a room with the gorgeously talented men who continue to lift me up!”

About AGMC's 40th Anniversary Concert

The 2021-22 season is the AGMC’s 40th, which is traditionally celebrated as the ruby anniversary. The inner fire of a ruby is thought to represent the burning flame of passion in the hearts of those who have been together for 40 years. This exciting anniversary show will include some of the favorite songs the AGMC has performed over its four decades, including "Tired of the Silence," "Can't Help Lovin' That Man of Mine," "Brothers Sing On," “Spaséniye Sodélal,” and "Sound Off.” The chorus will premiere several new works, including one by legendary Broadway composer Stephen Schwartz. It will also feature many previous directors conducting the all-time greatest hits.

About Jessica Vosk

Like the members of the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus, Jessica Vosk did not begin her career as a full-time artist. She worked a 9-to-5 on Wall Street and would perform at open mics in Manhattan. Now, Vosk is a celebrated singer and actress known for stirring roles on the musical theater and concert stage. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in November 2021 in a sold-out solo show titled “My Golden Age.”

She is most known for her acclaimed run as Elphaba in Wicked on Broadway, having played the role for two years. Vosk starred in New York City Ballet’s Jerome Robbins tribute Something to Dance About, directed by Warren Carlyle, and re-created the role of Fruma Sarah in the most recent Broadway revival of Fiddler on the Roof. Other Broadway credits include Fiddler on the Roof, Finding Neverland, and The Bridges of Madison County.

Tickets to Jessica Vosk with the Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus

Tickets start at $36 and can be purchased at: https://www.voicesofnote.org or by calling 404-320-1030.

The Balzer Theater at Herren's will bring a mystery thriller from a modern playwright to Atlanta this spring.

Theatrical Outfit continues its return to the stage with an explosive work by acclaimed playwright Ike Holter – The Wolf at the End of the Block. Filled with grit and suspense, this new thriller will run at Balzer Theater at Herren’s in the heart of Downtown Atlanta from March 30 – April 24, 2022.

In the Words of Theatrical Outfit's Matt Torney

“Ike describes the play as a ‘neo-noir,’ and he masterfully captures the feeling of threat and imminent violence as the events in the play spiral out of control,” says Torney. “As he unpacks the complex politics that surround the attack, he also places the characters in a shifting moral landscape where the difference between right and wrong becomes unclear. To me, this ambiguity is both startling and exhilarating, and offers a powerful counterpoint to the certainty we see in much of our politics today.”

-Artistic Director Matt Torney

About The Wolf at the End of the Block

Have you ever entered a world where nothing is as it seems? Abe, a resident of the Rightlynd neighborhood of Chicago, seeks justice after a mysterious, late-night attack at a boarded-up bar. In the next 48 hours, the neighborhood digs deep into escalating mystery, working against time to separate fact from fiction. But as the clock ticks down, the media gets involved, and what began as a simple mystery quickly twists into a personal, pointed and political thriller. A modern-day neo-noir, The Wolf at the End of the Block is “A Modern Masterpiece” (New City).

About The Wolf at the End of the Block Cast

It will star some of the best of ATL theatre – Anthony S. Goolsby (East Texas Hotlinks at True Colors Theatre), Mark Kincaid (Dividing the Estate at TO), Matt Mercurio (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity at Theater Emory), Erika Miranda (The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley at TO), and Maria Rodriguez-Sager (Our Town & The Laramie Project at TO).

About The Wolf at the End of the Block Creative Team

ATL favorite (and Theatrical Outfit’s Associate Artistic Director) Addae Moon directs & leads an extremely talented group of designers that includes Scenic Design by Seamus Bourne, Costume Design by April Andrew Carswell, Lighting Design by Toni Sterling, Sound Design by Chris Lane, and Properties Design & Scenic Decoration by Nick Battaglia.
