Australian singer-songwriter Angie McMahon, who this summer played multiple sold-out shows at Melbourne’s Forum Theatre and the Sydney Opera House, has returned to the U.S. for a series of concerts in August.
Among her dates are gigs on Aug. 22 at The Basement East in Nashville; and on Aug. 24 at Terminal West in Atlanta.
The singer began her career performing in a nine-piece soul band known as The Fabric before breaking off as a solo act. In 2013, McMahon won a competition to serve as the opening act for Bon Jovi on the Australian leg of the band’s Because We Can tour.
From there, she quickly became a fan-favorite in both her home country and around the world.
McMahon recently released Light Sides, a new EP collection of five songs that were written at the same time as her critically acclaimed album, Light, Dark, Light Again.
The first single from the EP, “Untangling,” is one that McMahon noted she has been working on since the early days of the album.
“It was written about someone who is deeply entwined in my life, so I never felt like either the song or the untangling itself was entirely finished,” she said. The song was recorded at longtime collaborator Alex O’Gorman’s studio in suburban Melbourne.
McMahon will be joined on the tour dates by her bandmates, Lachlan O’Kane on drums, Jess Ellwood on guitar, Stella Farnan on keyboard and O’Gorman on bass.
