Wild With Happy, an Off-Broadway hit written by Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, will be staged at Atlanta’s Horizon Theatre through Sept 15.
The funny and touching comedy tells the story of Gil, a man on a mission to find the perfect resting place for his mother. When she passes way, Gil returns home and decides to have her cremated, despite some family opposition. He then takes an unexpected road trip with his mom’s ashes. Expect plenty of bold twists and turns along the way.
Atlanta favorite Enoch King stars as Gil, Tonia Jackson doubles up as Adelaide and Aunt Glo, Brad Raymond plays Mo, and Markell Williams plays a charming funeral director.
“We’re so thrilled we get to bring Wild With Happy to Atlanta audiences,” said Lisa Adler, Horizon Theatre’s co-artistic/producing director. “This comedy runs the gamut of emotions—joy, hilarity, grief, absurdity—and takes audience members on a whirlwind journey right along with the characters. It’s deeply profound and impactful while also being absurdly funny.”
The story is loosely based on Domingo’s own experiences. His show premiered in New York at the Public Theatre and was recently released as an Audible podcast, performed by a cast including Colman himself and Oprah Winfrey.
