Discover the art of transforming everyday objects into innovative creations using a variety of materials such as paper, cardboard, wood, metal, wire, and fabric in a new studio class presented by the High Museum of Art.
In the class, “Design Studio: Imagining and Constructing Everyday Objects,” held Thursdays through May 16 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., participants will draw inspiration from the High’s Decorative Arts and Design collection, delving into the works of artists and designers like Ettore Sottsass Jr. and Jaime Hayon, who specialize in reimagining the ordinary through design.
Led by instructor Daniel Mantilla, participants will explore different materials and assembly techniques to craft their own unique objects, ranging from nature-inspired designs to furniture with distinct personalities. Following the creative process, there will be group discussions, with participants receiving professional feedback from the instructor.
Mantilla, an associate education specialist at the High Museum of Art, brings more than a decade of experience teaching individuals of all ages. As a Colombian-born artist, his work, including paintings, drawing-collages, and cutouts, explores themes of transition and instability.
Registration is required. For more information, visit https://high.org/.
