The 4,665-seat Fox Theatre has long been considered one of Atlanta’s premier venues for live entertainment, hosting more than 250 performances a year.

The nonprofit theatre was recently named the No. 2 Highest-Grossing Theatre of its size by Billboard, and has been nominated for 2024’s Theatre of the Year by Pollstar.

The Fox Theatre’s Onion Dome, a notable sight of Atlanta’s skyline since 1929, has been a favorite part of the historic theatre for many. Crafted by the local firm of Marye, Alger and Vinour, the Onion Dome, along with its two smaller counterparts, has adorned the Fox Theatre’s roof for almost a century. Tthe trio of domes reflect Fox’s unique architectural style, encompassing Middle Eastern designs such as pointed arches, minarets and elaborate tiles.

In 2023, the Fox Theatre completed a renovation of the Onion Dome, which included new paint with reinstated sharp, distinct edges around decorative features for a striking design impact; the addition of an overhead light among other lighting enhancements; and more.

“The rejuvenated Onion Dome not only reinforces the Fox Theatre’s structural integrity but also boosts its cultural prominence,” said Rachel Bomeli, Fox Theatre’s vice president of facility operations. “This project is a testament to our commitment to preserving this magnificent theatre, blending routine maintenance with specialized conservation of original materials and modern technology.”

Be sure to check out the renovated Onion Dome the next time you head to one of the Fox Theatre’s amazing performances.
