The Children’s Museum of Atlanta is running a special exhibit called “Emotions at Play,” based on the popular 2015 Pixar animated film Inside Out. “Emotions at Play” will open Sept. 16 and run through Jan. 7, 2024.

The film follows Riley (Kaitlyn Dias), a happy, hockey-loving 11-year-old Midwestern girl, whose world gets turned upside-down when she and her parents move to San Francisco. Riley’s emotions—led by Joy (Amy Poehler)—try to guide her through this difficult, life-changing event.

Created by Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh in collaboration with Pixar Animation Studios, the exhibit will help youngsters understand the important role emotions, memory and imagination play in their everyday lives.

“Emotions at Play” features hands-on and digital encounters centered on the five key emotions showcased in the award-winning film—Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust and Fear. Children can develop their emotional intelligence by learning to identify and understand these emotions, exploring the myriad of ways humans express and cope with each one.

Guests can also explore their emotions by creating music at the Control Panel, while the Emotions Mirrors offer an enlightening experience where guests discover the meaning behind feelings that are communicated through facial expressions and body language.

This exhibit is sponsored locally by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Strong for Life.
