Shakti, the popular fusion band formed by English guitarist John McLaughlin, Indian violin player L. Shankar, percussionists Zakir Hussain and T. H. Vinayakram in 1974, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in the music biz with an international tour.

The band, which performs acoustic fusion music combined with Indian music and elements of jazz, will commemorate its anniversary at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Center on Aug. 25, with McLaughlin, Hussain and newer member, Shankar Mahadevan.

The show will also feature special guest Béla Fleck.

This summer, Shakti released its first studio album in 45 years. “This Moment” is a collection of new music that intermingles with Eastern and Western influences and traditions.

Expect both old hits and new music at the 50th anniversary celebration.
