The Fox Theatre Institute recently put on the concert of the year to celebrate both Georgia’s historic theatres and FTI’s tenth year of playing a vital role in supporting them.
Kevn Kinney hosted the September 13 fundraiser which included appearances from R.E.M.’s Bill Berry, Mike Mills, and Peter Buck, as well as Berry’s son Owen. The lineup also featured Drive-By Truckers, Drivin N Cryin, Dodd & The Councilmen, and Atlanta-native Michelle Malone. Encore has the whole night in pictures below!
“We’re incredibly thankful for the patrons and performers who helped us raise more than $100,000 to help empower historic venues,” said Chief Operating Officer of the Fox Theatre, Adina Erwin. “As many Atlantans know, it is the passionate patrons here in this city that helped keep the Fox Theatre alive back in the 1970s. Revitalizing that passion and passing that support on to other theaters throughout the state of Georgia is what the Fox Theatre Institute is all about.”
The fundraiser included an opportunity for audience members to contribute money for the Fox Theatre Institute’s program “Fox in a Box,” which educates Georgia students about the Fox Theatre’s relevant history and the value of coming together as a community. The evening also included a personal component in which the special guests shared what Georgia’s historic venues have meant to them and how they have played a role in their lives. Overall, the event raised over $100,000.

About the Fox Theatre Institute
The Fox Theatre Institute (FTI) is a dynamic outreach program offering historic preservation expertise, consultation and education to performing arts venues in Georgia and the region. Created by Atlanta’s “Fabulous Fox” Theatre, an iconic attraction widely applauded for being a catalyst for positive change in the community, FTI pays it forward, helping other cultural institutions renew, reinvigorate and restore artistic vitality in their backyards and beyond.
Keeping environmental and economic impact top of mind, FTI offers the financial assistance, restoration support and operations mentoring needed to leverage scarce resources and stimulate local economies. Not only that, but it keeps the artistic pulse of beloved communities beating for decades to come.
