The Allliance Theatre opens its season with a new Broadway-bound musical comedy, another world premiere from Tony Award-winning director-choreographer Casey Nicholaw (The Drowsy Chaperone, Spamalot, Shrek, The Book of Mormon, Something Rotten!, Tuck Everlasting) and colleagues. The Prom is described as “uproarious” and “uplifting” (we’ve seen the script, and it’s funny, very funny.) The premise: When Emma’s high school cancels her prom because she wants to bring her girlfriend, a group of just-past-their-prime actors takes up the cause. The celebs invade Emma’s small Indiana town, creating more chaos than social activism. The cast is led by Tony winner Beth Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone) and two-time Tony nominee Christopher Sieber (Spamalot, Shrek).
