The Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta series has added the popular family musical Annie to its 2016-17 Fox Theatre lineup.
The show, which makes a quick visit to Atlanta on March 17-19, 2017, is optional for season-ticket holders. The production is directed by original lyricist/director Martin Charnin and is described as a “brand-new physical incarnation” of the Tony Award-winning original.
The touring company is already on the road, and it’s likely cast changes will be made by the time the show reaches Atlanta.
The original Annie opened April 21, 1977, and won seven Tony awards, including best musical. It also launched the career of Andrea McArdle, whose distinct voice still makes her the Annie of memory for many theatergoers.

It ran 2,377 performances — almost six years — has been revived twice on Broadway, toured innumerable times and been performed in 28 languages.
At the Fox Theatre next season, it will sneak in between The Phantom of the Opera (Feb. 22-March 5, 2017) and The Bodyguard (March 28-April 2, 2017 ).
