memphisSouthern-style rock ‘n’ roll was born in Memphis, but there’s a lot more to the story than Elvis and Graceland. Memphis, a co-production of Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville and Theatrical Outfit downtown, is inspired by true events. Pioneering disc jockey Huey Calhoun’s efforts to move the iconic sound from radio to TV get complicated when he falls in love with a black singer. Winner of the 2010 Tony Award for best musical. See it July 21 at Aurora Theatre and Sept. 10 at Theatrical Outfit. Note: Contains adult situations and violence.
