newsiesStop the presses! Here comes Newsies.

The musical, still running on Broadway, will visit the Fox Theatre as part of the 2014-15 Broadway in Atlanta season.

Newsies is inspired by the real-life Newsboy Strike of 1899, when a newsboy named Kid Blink led a band of orphan and runaway newsies on a two-week-long action against such powerful publishers as Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. The show is produced by Disney Theatricals (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid). Disney also released the less successful 1992 movie version.

The musical opened on Broadway on March 29, 2012, and is approaching its 700th performance, running at about 86 percent capacity. The tour begins in October 2014 in Schenectady, N.Y., before an official opening in Philadelphia. It will play 25 cities over 43 weeks.

Newsies was nominated for eight 2012 Tony awards, including best musical, and won for the Jack Feldman-Alan Menken score and Christopher Gattelli’s choreography. Jeremy Jordan, who played upstart composer Jimmy Collins in the TV series “Smash,” was nominated as leading actor for his work as Jack Kelly, the character modeled after Kid Blink.

Renewing subscribers of the 2013-14 Broadway in Atlanta series are guaranteed their seats for Newsies. Details HERE.

Information regarding run dates, and group and single tickets, will be announced at a later time. If you’d like to register for advance ticket access notifications or learn more as the tour develops, Broadway in Atlanta recommends visiting the tour website, Facebook page or Twitter account.
