The Center for Puppetry Arts is celebrating the holiday season with several programs aimed at the puppet lover in everyone.
Now through Dec. 31, the venue is presenting a puppet show based on the classic television special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, adapted by Jon Ludwig.
In the show, Sam the Snowman narrates the story of Rudolph and Hermey the Elf, two misfits on the run, who set off on an exciting adventure with Yukon Cornelius, trying to stay out of the way of Bumble the Abominable Snow Monster. All of the classic scenes from the iconic special are included, such as Santa’s Workshop, the North Pole, and the enigmatic Island of Misfit Toys.
In addition to the puppet show, the center is also presenting an exhibit of holiday puppets, where visitors can learn about puppetry in classic holiday films and television specials, and discover the history behind some of the most recognizable characters of the season. Among the puppets featured is the Jim Henson Company reindeer from The Ed Sullivan Show.
Visitors can also create a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer shadow puppet.
