The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra (ASO), led by conductor Pablo Zamora, will kick off its latest season of family concerts on October 29, with a program designed to transport listeners to Mexico with favorites including “Huapango” and “Besame Mucho” in two performances at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.

This “Day of the Dead” musical program celebrates Mexican heritage by featuring a program of all Mexican composers and a loving celebration of life through music for all ages to enjoy.

Additionally, the ASO will host a free Día de los Muertos Festival in the lobby of the Woodruff Arts Center and outdoors on Callaway Plaza, from noon to 5 p.m., that day. The family-friendly festival will include mariachi performances, Ballet Folklórico, stilt walkers, face painting, altar exhibition, traditional Mexican games and representation from various Latin American community organizations. There will also be themed food trucks at the event.

“We are passionate about inviting our community to celebrate the vibrant culture of Atlanta through music,” said Jennifer Barlament, executive director of the ASO. “Our inaugural Día de los Muertos Festival last year was so much fun and attracted so many people that we knew our season would not be complete without an even bigger and better festival, this time in coordination with our popular Family Concert Series. It’s a perfect way for families to explore Mexican culture through music, dance, dress, and delicious food.”

The Día de los Muertos concert is the first of three concerts of the Family Concert Series. For more information, visit www.aso.com.
