City Springs Theatre Conservatory, the arts education training arm of the City Springs Theatre Company, will stage All Shook Up at the Byers Theatre in the Sandy Springs Performing Arts Center.
The musical, directed by Broadway veterans Kristine Reese and Billy Tighe, features 45 students from across metro Atlanta who are part of a four-week immersive program, and designed and built by students in the Conservatory’s tech track.
“Our students are the best of the best in Atlanta, coming from all major metro counties, so the program is extremely competitive,” said Natalie DeLancey, executive director of City Springs Theatre. “All students have a four-week immersive opportunity to bring this production to life on the same stage where our City Springs Theatre Company professionals perform each year. We’re especially proud of our graduating seniors taking the time to lend their talents to the production before pursuing degrees in musical theatre at colleges across the country this fall.”
All Shook Up, which ran on Broadway in 2005, is an American jukebox musical with music from the Elvis Presley songbook and a book by Joe DiPietro. Set in 1955, and loosely based on Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, the story features many of the classic songs of the King of Rock and Roll, including “Jailhouse Rock,” “Heartbreak Hotel” and “Hound Dog.”
The musical stars Tsumari Patterson (School of the Arts at Central Gwinnett High School) as Chad, Samantha Scruggs (Johns Creek High School) as Natalie Haller and Zach Feeney (Denmark High School) as Jim Haller.
The show runs 7 p.m., on June 29; 7 p.m., on June 30; and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on July 1. Tickets range from $20-$35.
