Atlanta’s High Museum of Art will unveil “Panorama,” an interactive outdoor environment by Rotterdam-based Studio Sabine Marcelis. Running from June 28 to Dec. 1, this kaleidoscopic installation of color, light, and reflection is the ninth commission in the High Museum’s ongoing series designed to enliven the Woodruff Arts Center’s Carroll Slater Sifly Piazza.

“Panorama” features four rotating glass pillars that mirror light, scenery and the urban backdrop of the piazza. As these pillars turn, they draw in light and surroundings, creating vibrant reflections that amplify the visual impact. Visitors stepping between the rotating pillars will experience” a seamless and dynamic visual interplay, offering fresh perspectives on their environment,” according to the museum. “This installation will both literally and metaphorically reflect sunlight, transforming perceptions and infusing the piazza with warmth and color.”

Rand Suffolk, High Museum of Art’s director, said, “It will create a welcoming, engaging and dynamic optical experience at our front doors, which continues our commitment to curating a creative environment from the moment you step on our campus. We are proud to be the first U.S. institution to commission Sabine’s work, and we are delighted for our visitors to experience this installation by such an innovative and respected artist.”

The eight previous commissions for the Piazza included “HAPPY JOYLANTA” by Tanya Aguiñiga (2023); “Outside the Lines” by Bryony Roberts Studio (2021); “Murmuration” by New York-based architectural firm SO – IL (2020); “Sonic Playground” (2018) by Japanese designer Yuri Suzuki; “Merry Go Zoo” (2017) and “Tiovivo” (2016) by Spanish designer Jaime Hayon; and “Mi Casa, Your Casa” and “Los Trompos” (“The Spinning Tops”) (2014-2015) by Mexican designers Héctor Esrawe and Ignacio Cadena.
