The Atlanta Ballet has released its performance schedule for the 2024-25 season.
Gennadi Nedvigin, artistic director for the Atlanta Ballet, described the season as a sophisticated twist on tradition combined with stunning modern works that are as sultry as they are sassy, and playful as they are primal.
Things kick off Sept. 13-15 with choreographer Stanton Welch’s Tu Tu set to Maurice Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major. This classical work features 22 dancers in three movements, in costumes inspired by Gustav Klimt’s bold and sensual paintings. The program also includes Elemental Brubeck by Lar Lubovitch featuring the jazz music of Dave Brubeck, and a world premiere by Kiyon Ross with a piece commissioned specifically for Atlanta Ballet.
Next up from Feb. 7-15 is a program featuring The Rite of Spring, a world premiere by choreographer-in-residence Claudia Schreier, set to Igor Stravinsky’s iconic symphony work.
The program also includes 7 for Eight by Helgi Tomasson, originally performed by Atlanta Ballet seven years ago. The dance features eight dancers to the work of seven Johann Sebastian Bach classics.
From March 21-23, the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra joins in for Coppélia, featuring choreography from George Balanchine and music by Léo Delibes, performed by students from Centre for Dance Education.
Three dances are part of the May program, running May 9-11. It starts with Catch by British choreographer Liam Scarlett, followed by Tuplet by Alexander Ekman, a world premiere by Belgian-Colombian Annabelle Lopez Ochoa,
For the holidays, The Nutcracker with the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra will hit the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre Dec. 7-26, with choreography by Yuri Possokhov.
Finally, Atlanta Ballet 2 will present The Swan Princess with choreography by Bruce Wells, Feb. 15-26.
