The Atlanta Opera will stage A Midsummer Night’s Dream, fusing opera with the classic William Shakespeare comedy, March 2, 5, 8 and 10, at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Written in 1960 by composer Benjamin Britten and librettist Peter Pears, the opera will have its Atlanta premiere under the baton of rising star Louis Lohraseb (making his Atlanta debut) with staging by Bruno Baker. Audiences will be transported into a realm where the magical world of fairies collides with the romantic entanglements of mortals.

Grammy Award-winning countertenor Sir Iestyn Davies leads the cast as Oberon, with lyrical soprano Liv Redpath playing Tytania. The show also stars Atlanta favorite Meg Marino as Puck, Luke Sutliff as Demetrious, soprano Susanne Burgess as Helena, tenor Kameron Lopreore as Lysander and mezzo-soprano Melody Wilson as Hermia.

“Programming A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Atlanta is long overdue,” said Tomer Zvulun, general and artistic director of The Atlanta Opera. “This magical production, developed as an original creation for our company, will correct this historical wrong in a spectacular way. Our designers have created an enchanting place of fantasy and delight.”

Atlanta Opera’s projection designer Nicholas Hussong, together with scenic designer Steven Kemp, float a 21st-century wrap around a mythical stage of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, to bring the production to life.

A live stream of the event will be held on March 8 beginning at 7 p.m., at www.stream.atlantaopera.org
