For centuries, literary scholars and historians have debated the true authorship of William Shakespeare’s plays. Now, a new comedy, By My Will, will attempt to answer whether the Bard really wrote all those masterpieces himself.
Written by playwright Douglas Post, whose plays have included Bloodshot, Cynical Weathers, Drowning Sorrows, and Murder in Green Meadows, By My Will introduces audiences to a colorful assortment of regal and literary characters from the Elizabethan era and has audiences questioning some issues related to the writing of Shakespeare’s plays that they may not have previously considered.
Commissioned by Atlanta Shakespeare Company’s artistic director Jeff Watkins, By My Will follows an assortment of 16th century playwrights, poets and regal figures who meet up in a unique location to determine who among them may have written the works attributed to the man from Stratford.
The play will run on Atlanta Shakespeare’s stage from September 28 through October 1.
