Actor’s Express continues its 34th season with the World Premiere production of Hometown Boy by Georgia native Keiko Green, opening in November. Green is both an actress and award-winning playwright who often writes about the collision of cultures. Her original work spans from comedy to horror and everything in between, “spinning narratives to centralize characters that are usually plot devices.” Hometown Boy is about being an outsider and asks the age-old question, “Can you really go home again?”

In the words of the theatre
“Keiko Green is a Georgia native who has crafted a sublimely affecting piece of theatre that refracts a Southern Gothic milieu through an Asian-American lens. I had the good fortune of working as Dramaturg on a workshop of the play a little over a year ago at the Kennedy Center, and working with Keiko was an amazing experience and a real highlight for me. Since Keiko is a native of Marietta, doing her play for Actor’s Express audiences here in Atlanta is a bit of a homecoming for her, and that’s very exciting.”

About Hometown Boy
by Keiko Green
Directed by Rebecca Wear
November 3 – 28, 2021
James hasn’t been back to his rural Georgia hometown in over a decade, but reluctantly returns to check in on his father, whose behavior has become worryingly erratic. And since the South has a way of holding onto secrets, he soon stumbles into a life he thought he had left behind as a child. That stench in the air isn’t just his father’s decaying house, but the rotten core of long-buried secrets teeming just under the surface and ready to explode.
California-based Rebecca Wear directs the six-person cast, which includes Ryan Vo, Allison Dayne, Michelle Pokopac, Glenn Kubota, Daniel Parvis and Chris Kayser.
