The world premiere of Camino Real, a ballet inspired by the Tennessee Williams play of the same, is one of the centerpiece productions of the Atlanta Ballet‘s 85th season, which opens Dec. 11 at the Fox Theatre with the annual production of “The Nutcracker.”

The company will reprise two other popular works from previous seasons: Jean-Christophe Maillot’s Romeo et Juliette (Feb. 6-14, 2015) and Seven Sonatas, by American Ballet Theatre’s Alexei Ratmansky, as part of its annual MAYhem performance (May 15-17, 2015).

Camino Real, a full-length ballet by resident choreographer Helen Pickett, premieres March 20, 2015. It’s inspired by Williams’ 1953 play and told from the perspective of Kilroy, a character based on patriotic iconography from the World War II era. The work grapples with human mortality, the burning desire to connect and the will to live.

Except for The Nutcracker, Atlanta Ballet dances at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre. Subscription packages are on sale now; single tickets go on sale in late summer. Call 404.892.3303 or go HERE for details and the complete season schedule. (Photo by Charlie McCullers)
