The New York Times calls Shakespeare’s R&J, an 1998 off-Broadway hit by playwright Joe Calarco, a “hot-blooded adaptation.” It tells the story of four young prep school students who turn to the bard to vary the tedium of conjugating Latin and the rest of their very governed lives. As they share the tragic story of Romeo and Juliet, their perceptions and understanding are turned upside down and the fun of play-acting turns serious. This staging at Fabrefaction Theatre Conservatory is directed by Serenbe Playhouse’s Brian Clowdus and features, among others, Kyle Brumley (last season’s Equus at Actor’s Express.)
