The Delta International Series continues its tradition of diverse, international entertainment with its 20th anniversary season.
“The worldwide renowned artists and performances for the 20th Anniversary of the series provides audiences with the opportunity to take an enriching journey around the globe — an experience which is enhanced by each of our special pre-show presentations,” says Allan Vella, the Fox Theatre’s general manager.
The Virsky Ukrainian National Dance Company opens the season on Oct. 19. Named for famed ballet master Pavlo Virsky, the company is known for its bright colors, and unity of content and form. Through vivid concepts and performances, and the folk tradition of humor and optimism, they manage to bring the beauty and charm of Ukrainian folk dancing to mainstream audiences.
Hailed as the reigning virtuoso of violin, Itzhak Perlman has performed with every major orchestra around the world; he makes his appearance at the Fox on Oct. 27. A beloved, award-winning artist, Perlman has been elevated to heights unbeknownst to most classical musicians. In addition to his 15 Grammy Awards, he was honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in the Recording Arts in 2008. He’s also received four Emmy Awards, collaborated on the score for the Academy Award-winning Schindler’s List, for which he performed the violin solos, and regularly tops best-seller charts.
In the spirit of great Russian ballet companies, the Moscow Festival Ballet forges the classical and modern elements of the art in a unique way. Founded in 1989 by Bolshoi Ballet principal dancer Sergei Radchenko, the ballet has seen great success, resulting in an expanded repertoire featuring full-length works such as Cinderella, Romeo and Juliet, The Golden Age, and more. The Moscow Festival Ballet performs Coppélia on Feb. 22.
Accompanied by a four-piece band, the Soweto Gospel Choir performs in six of South Africa’s 11 languages. An exciting mix of dance, vibrant costumes and dynamic vocal styling, the choir has been praised for its ability to elevate the spirit and leave audiences stunned with emotion. In 2003, they performed for President Nelson Mandela alongside Bono, Queen, Anastacia, Peter Gabriel and others. Their voices will ring for Atlanta audiences on Feb. 25.
Max Raabe and the Palast Orchester round out the series on March 7. With a repertoire centered on German and American standards, Raabe and the Orchester embody the high-style and precision of times past. In over 150 concerts each year, Raabe flexes his diverse vocal range at the forefront of the 12-member orchestra, performing pieces that eloquently sum up the German musical experience.
