Opening an Upromise College Fund 529 Plan gives registered users access to rebates from more than 100 companies, 8,000 restaurants, 10,000 hotels and 500 online retailers that are deposited automatically into a college savings account. Participating Upromise companies include mortgage brokers (Wachovia Corporate Mortgage Services, CitiMortgage), gas stations (Exxon, Mobil), restaurants (McDonalds), shops (Target, Eddie Bauer, The Sharper Image), rental car companies (Budget, Avis), and grocery store brands (Lysol, Tide, Tylenol, Nestle). Rebates range from 1 to 10 percent, depending on the retailer, and friends and family members also can register and have their rebates sent to your college savings account.
