Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB Media) launches GPB Encore – a new monthly magazine distributed to GPB Donors in partnership with Encore Atlanta

The premiere issue of GPB Encore debuts July 1.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

ATLANTA, GA (May 21, 2020) – Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) is launching a new monthly magazine on July 1 titled, GPB Encore. The new publication will be distributed via mail to GPB donors in partnership with Encore Atlanta, owned/published by Brantley Manderson. Encore Atlanta is the voice of the arts in the southeast’s largest city: Atlanta. GPB is the statewide PBS and NPR network for Georgia. It connects millions of
Georgians every day through television, radio, digital initiatives, and innovative educational programming.

The July premiere issue will feature the cover story American Experience: The Vote, a new four-hour, two-part documentary series that tells the dramatic story of the epic and surprisingly unfamiliar crusade waged by American women for the right to vote and political power. Additional July programming includes the annual, ever-popular A Capitol Fourth, that will air on our nation’s 244th birthday, July 4 at 8:00 p.m. and will celebrate 40 spectacular years on air, with an all-star musical extravaganza with performances from top artists, iconic moments from the concert’s 40-year history, a salute to our military heroes of every generation and a special tribute to those on the front lines in the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19). Two-time Emmy Award-nominated actor and producer John Stamos will be back to host along with the National Symphony Orchestra.

Monthly issues of GPB Encore will feature a wide range of influential television and radio highlights that GPB has become well-known for across Atlanta viewership such as; dramas, education, nature, history, antiques, documentaries, and much more, such as PBS Kids. PBS Kids is available to over 97 percent of U.S. households and provides kids access to what may be their only source of educational TV. GPB is considered the largest stage, classroom, and window to the world — in the current climate, with more of the station’s audience keeping close to home, this is an incredible, affordable benefit for adults and families with children. GPB Encore will feature a monthly guide about educational content that will help prepare millions of children in our state for great success and enhance their interest in the areas of science, math, language, and the arts.

Previously, GPB was producing a bi-monthly newsletter that was mailed to its donors, and many of them expressed the desire for expanded information and more frequent programming updates.

“It is GPB’s mission to educate, inform, and entertain our audiences, and our donors play a key role in making that possible,” said Georgia Public Broadcasting President and CEO Teya Ryan. “Our partnership with Brantley Manderson, the publisher of Encore Atlanta, allows us to strengthen our communication with donors and raise awareness of the many ways to take advantage of GPB’s offerings and the impact of their loyal support. We are excited to begin this new venture.”

GPB will craft the editorial and program design each month, while Encore Atlanta will sell advertising for the new publication.

Encore Atlanta Owner/Publisher, Brantley Manderson shared, “Encore Atlanta is thrilled to have been chosen to partner with GPB in this endeavor, and we view this opportunity as the perfect brand alignment. There are numerous similarities between the GPB audience and donors and our audience that attend the symphony, opera, ballet and theatre where Encore Atlanta is distributed – a natural fit. My team looks forward to growing our reach in Atlanta and around our state with GPB Encore. This partnership affords us the ability to deliver the incredible content that GPB produces that reflects our region’s culture and community-minded Georgians.”
