Georgia’s tourism industry generated a record-breaking $60.8 billion in economic impact in 2017 and employed more than 450,000 Georgians.
Gov. Nathan Deal shared those figures on the final day of the recent Georgia Governor’s Conference, held this year on Jekyll Island. The annual event, hosted by the Georgia Department of Economic Development and the Georgia Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus, brought together more than 400 industry professionals and handed out a number of awards. The conference, originally scheduled for mid-September, was bumped back by the fallout from Hurricane Irma.
The conference provides a forum for industry members to discuss statewide and nationwide travel and tourism issues, to look at emerging trends, to brainstorm and to network. The 2018 conference is Aug. 26-28 in Atlanta.
