Each year the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival likes to challenge itself to one-up its predecessor. This year the event, which continues through Sunday, introduces a pop-up vineyard and event space.

Wine-toastThe Vineyard in the City, believed to be the first of its kind in the nation, provides a backdrop for master classes, Sunday brunch, evening events and a Grapes From A to Z Sommelier Wine Lunch. It will stay in place through June 30 for private events and community use.

The space was inspired by the McGuigan City Vineyard in Dublin, which opened in 2012 with more than 100 living, breathing 70-year-old vines, a cellar door, wine barrels and a tractor in the Irish capital’s Meeting House Square.

Atlanta’s Vineyard in the City, like the Food & Wine fest itself, is centered in Midtown around 10th, 11th and Peachtree streets. Check it out when it’s not busy with these events:

FRIDAY

  • Noon. Grapes From A-Z Wine Luncheon ($100).
  • 7 p.m. Closed for private event.

SATURDAY

  • 10 a.m. Master class. Breakfast Batched – In-Depth Food & Drink Pairings ($100, included in Connoisseur Pass).
  • 1 p.m. Master class. Old World vs. New World ($100, included in Connoisseur Pass).

SUNDAY

  • Noon. VIP Sunday brunch ($60).
