Theatrical Outfit has promoted Clifton Guterman, its casting director, executive and artistic associate, to associate artistic director effective July 1.

Guterman will continue doing casting and literary management work as he has, but will add community engagement responsibilities. He’s been on staff at the Outfit in one capacity or another since 2012.

He’s an Atlanta actor, casting director, instructor and producer. He’s acted off-Broadway, at such regional theaters as Berkeley Rep, Arena Stage, San Jose Rep, California Shakespeare and the O’Neill Festival, among others, and in films, television and commercials shot in the Southeast.

Closer to home he’s been seen at the Alliance Theatre; at Actor’s Express (WolvesThe Judas KissThe Goat and Beautiful Thing); at Synchronicity Theatre (Exit Pursued by a Bear and Lobster Alice); and at Dad’s Garage in its early days (Bat Boy: The Musical).

Guterman was the Alliance’s artistic assistant for four seasons and a casting director at Actor’s Express, where this season he served as National New Play Network Producer in Residence.

His industry and audition workshops have been featured at colleges in Georgia and at the American College Theatre Festival and the Southeastern Theatre and Georgia Thespian conferences. He’s also a Shuler Hensley/Georgia High School Musical Theatre awards judge and writes a regular column for the trade publication Backstage.

Guterman, originally from Iron City, Ga., has a B.A. in drama from the University of Georgia and an M.F.A. in performing arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design.
