dreamgirlslogo-POSH“And I’m telling you, I’m not go-o-o-ing.” If you know anything about the musical Dreamgirls, you know that song, the gut-buster sung by a desperate Effie Melody White. In the Atlanta Lyric Theatre staging, Kayce Grogan-Wallace is Effie and Kevin Harry (Actor’s Express’ recent Sweeney Todd) is Curtis Taylor Jr., the used-car-salesman-turned-music-promoter that just might be a thinly disguised version of Motown mogul Berry Gordy Jr. Some will argue this is the story of the Supremes; others insist it depicts any number of 1960s and ’70s girl groups. Either way you’ll see the music industry from the inside, and experience such numbers as “Fake Your Way to the Top,” “Cadillac Car,” “Family,” “I Am Changing” and “One Night Only.”
