chasin“Blues is the roots, the other musics are the fruits,” said early bluesman William James “Willie” Dixon (1915-1992). The story of this “poet laureate of the blues” is brought to life in True Colors Theatre Company’s Chasin’ Dem Blues, about a little-known chapter in the history of Paramount Records. Dixon was a Grammy Award winner who sang, played the guitar and upright bass, and was influential in shaping the post World War II sound in Chicago. This tale, his tale, is a foot-stomping, multimedia musical celebration about how one town changed the landscape of American music. Performed at the Southwest Arts Center.
