mobile_logoSaltyard and its Trio of Oysters and Champagne took Best Overall Taste honors at Taste of Atlanta, the annual three-day feasting festival that consumed Tech Square in Midtown in late October, serving samples from 100-plus restaurants to more than 45,000 patrons. The weekend-long event also raised more than $43,000 for Share Our Strength’s Cooking Matters program.

Four restaurants emerged as winners in the chef-to-chef competitions in the new Throwdown Tent:

  • Meat brawl: No. 246, Decatur
  • Sandwich smackdown: Chai Pani, Decatur
  • Taco takedown: Escorpion
  • Fried chicken throwdown: JCT Kitchen & Bar
  • Barcraft champion: Bobby Eldridge of Empire State South

Winners among the daily competitions:

  • Best taste: Scallop With Roasted French Pumpkin Puree and Pumpkin Seed by Article 14 and Lobster Grits by Rosebud
  • Best presentation: Makan and Chai Pani, both in Decatur
  • Best dessert: Homemade Oatmeal Cream Pie by Righteous ‘Que and Carrot Cake Cheesecake Bar by Sugar Shack
  • Best booth décor: Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q and Milton’s Cuisine, Milton
  • People’s choice: Café Intermezzo, Atlanta and Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
