rockband_heroDon’t quit your day job! But if you played drums before you played the stock market or fronted a punk band before opening a pizza place, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra wants you to play it again. The ASO is hosting its first Battle of the Biz Bands in January. All musical genres are encouraged to enter.

The idea is to showcase the musical talents of Atlanta’s business community, give some local businesses a a bit of positive press and raise funds for the symphony’s community outreach and education programs. The symphony is overseeing the event in partnership with the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

At 7 p.m. Jan. 3 and 10, bands will compete in audition rounds at Midtown’s 14th Street Playhouse. Each band gets 10 minutes to perform. Judges will then send 10 bands to the finals, taking place at 7 p.m. Jan. 19 at Symphony Hall in the Woodruff Arts Center.

The winner gets … bragging rights.

Only 25 bands will be selected, and the application deadline is Dec. 1. If more than 25 apply, participants will be chosen randomly. Entry is $2,000, payable by an employer or corporate sponsor.

Tickets are $25 each night for spectators and will be available by Dec. 3 HERE  and at all Ticketmaster outlets.
