Aurora Theatre’s “Clyde ‘n Bonnie: A Folktale” with Suzi nominees Karen Howell and Caitlin Smith (center).

The Alliance Theatre, Aurora Theatre and Atlanta Lyric Theatre are the companies with the most nominations for the 2011-12 Suzi Awards, honoring the best in professional metro theater. Thirteen other companies also received nominations.

The Alliance received 22 nominations for Ghost Brothers of Darkland County, Into the Woods, I Just Stopped By to See the Man, Broke and The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls. Aurora Theatre in Lawrenceville received 18 nominations for its productions of Clyde ‘n Bonnie: A Folktale, A Chorus Line, Underneath the Lintel and Fox on the Fairway. Atlanta Lyric Theatre in Marietta, which focuses on musicals, also received 18 nominations, for its productions of Ain’t Misbehavin’, Gypsy and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Also nominated were Actor’s Express (11), Fabrefaction Theatre (3), Georgia Ensembe Theatre (2), Georgia Shakespeare (10), Horizon Theatre (10), JibJam Productions (1), Legacy Theatre (4), Serenbe Playhouse (5), Stage Door Players (2), Synchronicity Theatre (1), Theatre in the Square (1), Theatrical Outfit (12) and True Colors Theatre Company (2).

Broadway producer GFour Productions was nominated for outstanding ensemble in a musical for Motherhood the Musical.

The eighth annual Suzis will be awarded Nov. 5 in a ceremony at the Porter Sanford Performing Arts Center in DeKalb County. The awards are named for popular longtime Atlanta actor Suzi Bass who died of cancer on May 17, 2002, at age 56.
