A blend of jazz, world music and dance can be expected at Georgia State University’s Rialto Center next season. The series will again showcase cultural performances from around the world.

This 2012-13 season, which opens Oct. 6, will include the reggae sounds of Third World Band, Gilberto Gil’s Brazilian baião sound, Grammy Award-winning banjo player Béla Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio, among others.

Third World Band. 8 p.m. Oct. 6. Reggae from the group that has worked with everyone from the Jackson 5 and Bob Marley, to the Wailers and Stevie Wonder.

Capitol Steps. 8 p.m. Oct. 20. Musical and political satire from the well-known Washington group.

Le Salon de Danse. 5 p.m. Oct. 28. French contemporary dance featuring Standards by Pierre Rigal.

Gilberto Gil. 7 p.m. Nov. 4. A fusion of samba, salsa and bossa nova as well as rock and folk creates baião, a northeastern Brazilian blend of folk music with Asian, African and Indian sounds.

Béla Fleck and the Marcus Roberts Trio. 8 p.m. Nov. 10. Banjo player Béla Fleck and classic jazz torchbearers the Marcus Roberts Trio, led by Roberts on piano, Jason Marsalis on drums and Rodney Jordan on bass.

Gala Holiday Concert. 8 p.m. Dec. 1; 3 p.m. Dec. 2. The GSU School of Music’s 15th annual concert includes student and faculty musicians performing traditional holiday favorites with an international twist. With the GSU symphony orchestra, choruses, jazz band and community ensembles.

Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra. 8 p.m. Jan. 19. O’Farrill, a pianist and Latin Jazz USA Outstanding Achievement Award winner, fronts the Grammy-nominated Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra.

Mingus Big Band. 8 p.m. Feb. 2. The jazz orchestra honors namesake Charles Mingus (1922-1979), a legendary composer and bassist.

Gallim Dance. 8 p.m. Feb. 16. Sit, Kneel, Stand, a contemporary dance led by choreographer Andrea Miller, a graduate of the Juilliard School.

Red Baraat: Bhangra Funk Dhol ‘n’ Brass. 8 p.m. March 2. Indian bhangra, New Orleans brass and hard funk from the Brooklyn group.

La Compañía de Manuel Liñán. 8 p.m. March 9. Flamenco music and dance from Spain.

Dianne Reeves. 8 p.m. March. 16. Grammy Award-winning jazz vocalist does her unique jazz and R&B vocals.

Hugh Masekela. 8 p.m. April 6. The Grammy Award-winning South African trumpeter and vocalist performs.

Eddie Daniels and the GSU Jazz Band. 8 p.m. April 12. The clarinetist combines jazz and classical compositions, backed by the GSU Jazz Band.

Maestros in Concert. 8 p.m. April 13. With Indian santoor player Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and Indian cultural ambassador Zakir Hussain.

The Turn of the Screw. 8 p.m. April 19-20; 3 p.m. April 21. A staging of the Benjamin Britten opera, accompanied by the GSU Symphony Orchestra.

Tiempo Libre. 8 p.m. April 27. Three-time Grammy-nominated Tiempo Libre’s sounds of timba, a high-energy, danceable blend of Latin jazz and son rhythms.
