Actor’s Express, which announced the lineup for its 25th anniversary season in May, has filled its TBA slot with the Broadway comedy Seminar by Theresa Rebeck.

Express fans might remember Rebeck’s Mauritius, a comedy about high-stakes stamp collecting, from the 2008-09 season. TV fans might recognize her as the writer behind the concept for NBC’s Broadway-set series Smash.

Seminar features four aspiring writers who get the education of a lifetime when they sign up for a writing class under a brilliant, egomaniacal, world-famous author. The show had a six-month Broadway run that ended in early May.

Seminar is “easily one of Rebeck’s best works,” according to Associated Press theater critic Mark Kennedy, who called it “funny, witty and painfully aware” and a piece that “manages to say a lot about the pain and costs of creating art.” Critics for The New York Times and Newsday were less effusive.

Seminar, to be directed by Express Artistic Director Freddie Ashley, fills the final spot in the season lineup, running May 15 to June 16, 2013. The theater’s season opens with the musical Kiss of the Spider Woman (Aug. 22-Oct. 7) and continues with the world premiere of Wolves by former Atlanta writer Steve Yockey (Nov. 7-Dec. 3), the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson (Jan. 9-Feb. 17) and Equus by Peter Shaffer (March 20-April 21).

Season subscriptions are $80 and $135, respectively. Details HERE. Single tickets are $27 to $32, plus fees. Details HERE or at 404.607-SHOW (7469). The theater is at 887 W. Marietta St., in West Midtown’s King Plow Arts Center.
