Ever seen a ballerina pop, glide and moon walk? You may get your chance next April at the Atlanta Ballet. The corps de ballet, in collaboration with Big Boi of Outkast and artists from Purple Ribbon Entertainment, will present an evening of dance combining the muscular artistry of the ballet with hip hop music.

“This is the collaboration that I have wanted to bring to audiences in this city for years,” says John McFall, artistic director of the Atlanta Ballet. “This project looks to the heart and soul of Atlanta.”

Choreographer-in-residence Lauri Stallings, who co-choreographed this season’s The Great Gatsby, will stage the as-yet-untitled show, which premieres April 10-13, 2008. Atlanta Peach magazine is organizing a series of events around the show, including a benefit for Big Boi’s charity, Big Kidz Foundation, which uses music and the humanities to prepare children for intellectual challenges, expose them to cultural diversity, and help boost literacy, mathematics, public speaking skills and artistic inclinations.
